You must have started teaching or at least plan to start teaching the English language as a foreign language or second language for this article to be very useful to you. Teaching students with a culture different from that of the tutor is much more challenging that teaching students from the same culture as you are. Asides from the language which may serve as the first barrier, you also have a lot of other tiny details which you as an efl tutor have to watch out for if you really want to succeed in your job.

Being an ESL tutor can get quite intimidating. While some get to become experts at teaching foreign students the English language, others just stumble from one job to another cursing their bad luck. TEFL or Teaching English as a foreign language refers to teaching English to students for whom it is not their mother tongue. If you want to teach overseas and currently have a degree, bachelors or masters then you will not need a TEFL Certificate. However, if you only have a post-secondary diploma or high school diploma it is a good idea to get a TEFL Certificate which will secure you a good paying job and many options of where you would like to teach.

Humans learn and experience life through their five senses: touch, sight, sound, taste, and smell. They are all memory triggers, and can therefore be ways to communicate information. However, in a classroom setting the easiest ways to teach and learn is by auditory and visual methods. Though teachers should be aware of the main methods of learning, they should also incorporate teaching by means of touch, taste, and smell, if and when possible.
